P45 M PPA passenger terminal building
inaugurated
Former
Press Secretary and now Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Ignacio R.
Bunye and Governor Arnan C. Panaligan formally led the inauguration of the newly
constructed passenger terminal building at the port of Calapan City last June
12, 2008.
The
P45 M passenger terminal building, which has a 552 seating-capacity and equipped
with modern facilities, is one of the major infrastructure projects of the
Philippine Ports Authority in the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH).
In
his message, Governor Panaligan stressed that the project is not only a major
development component of SRNH but also a major boost to the development efforts
of the province of Oriental Mindoro.
Governor
Panaligan added that there are now plans for the expansion of the Calapan City
port worth P200 M which will include the construction of finger ports to
accommodate even large international shipping vessels.
The
multi-million peso passenger terminal building is expected to serve not only the
people of Oriental Mindoro but also the passengers traversing the SRNH.

Noli donates modern medical equipment to Mindoreños
To
improve the quality of health services to Mindoreños, Vice-President Noli
‘Kabayan’ De Castro, in coordination with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes
Office, donated P24M worth of modern medical equipment to the Oriental Mindoro
Provincial Hospital (OMPH) during his visit to the province on June 19, 2008.

Vice-President De Castro’s Chief of Staff Atty. Jesse Andres led the signing of the Deed
of Donation and the formal turn-over ceremonies of the medical equipment to the
OMPH which included a hemodialysis machine, mobile x-ray machine,ICU central and
patient monitors, ECG, infant incubator, operating table electric, operating
light ceiling mounted, ENT ophthalmic table, heavy suction machine, ventilator
with compressor, defibrator monitor with recording, fetal monitor, chamber
sterilizer – fully automatic and gynecological examining table.

Noli presides
Oriental
Mindoro hosted the special full council meeting of the MIMAROPA Regional
Development Council last June 19, 2008 at the Filipiniana Resort Hotel, Calapan
City. Vice-President Noli De Castro, as the Cabinet Officer for Regional
Development (CORD) of MIMAROPA, presided the meeting.
Government
leaders from the different provinces in the region, led by Oriental Mindoro
Governor Arnan C. Panaligan, Occidental Governor Josephine R. Sato and Romblon
Governor Natalio F. Beltran III, with officials and representatives of various
regional line agencies, discussed the development goals and significant issues
concerning their provinces and the region as a whole.
Governors
Panaligan and Sato reiterated their unwavering stand against mining activities
within their territorial jurisdictions. Environmental concerns and social
acceptability were again stressed as strong grounds for their continuous
opposition.

OSYs graduate as SAKA scholars
Thirty
nine out-of-school youths (OSYs) received recently their certificates in agricultural
entrepreneurship after successfully finishing their one-year training as
scholars of the Sanayan sa Kakayahang Agrikultural (SAKA) program.
SAKA,
an agricultural skills training and scholarship program aims to help OSYs of
farming communities by providing them with knowledge and skills to improve farm
productivity and develop expertise in managing small agricultural enterprises.
SAKA
program is a joint project of the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro,
Pilipinas Shell Foundation Incorporated, Malampaya Foundation Incorporated and
the Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT).

Arnan C. Panaligan led the SAKA graduation held in Calapan City on June 4, 2008.
The event was also graced by Vice-Governor Maria Estela Felipa M. Aceron,
Calapan City Mayor Salvador Leachon, Shell-Philippines and North Asia Cluster
General Manager for Communications Bobby Kanapi, Shell-Philippines Executive
Director Edgardo Veron Cruz, Malampaya Executive Director Jose Luke Esteban,
MinSCAT President Jesse Zamora, and heads and representatives of different
offices, agencies and private institutions.

- SKIL
program launched in Oriental Mindoro
The Sanayan sa Kakayahang Industriyal or SKIL program was formally
launched in Oriental Mindoro after a memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed by
Governor Arnan C. Panaligan, Shell-Philippines and North Asia Cluster General
Manager for Communications Bobby Kanapi, Shell-Philippines Executive Director
Edgardo Veron Cruz, and Malampaya Director Executive Jose Luke Esteban. The MOA
signing was done at Riceland II, Calapan City last June 4, 2008.
SKIL is a six-months to one-year training program aimed at equipping
out-of-school youths (OSYs) with industrial skills to prepare them for long-term
employment in various industries in the Philippines and even abroad.
SKIL’s main goal is to train OSYs and provide them employment. Under
the SKIL program, 55 Mindoreño OSYs will undergo training on structural
welding, motorcycle and small engine repair and cellular phone repair at Keppel
Shipyards and Honda Motors in Batangas City and at the LIKHA-KA training room
inside the Provincial Capitol. After undergoing said trainings and based on
their performances, SAKA scholars will be employed by the companies where they
had their trainings.
